AI Test Case Generation

AssertThat BDD now supports AI-powered test case generation, allowing you to automatically create BDD scenarios directly from your Jira user stories. This page provides an overview of the feature and links to detailed setup and usage guides.

Before You Start

To use AI test case generation, two things must be in place:

1. Global AI configuration — An AI provider API key must be configured at the global (Jira admin) level. Full setup instructions can be found on the API Keys Management for AI Providers page.

💡 Advanced subscription users get access to the AssertThat Default model out of the box — no API key required. You can choose to use this, or bring your own key instead. Standard subscription users will need to configure their own AI provider API key to use this feature. AssertThat supports OpenAI, Claude, and Azure OpenAI. Subscription plans can be upgraded or downgraded at any time.

2. Per-project enablement — AI generation must be enabled on a project-by-project basis. A Jira project admin can do this from Project Settings → AssertThat BDD → Generate AI Scenarios. Simply toggle this on for any project where you want to use the feature.

What You Can Do

Once enabled, the AI generation feature is accessible from the Acceptance Tests panel on any Jira issue. There are two main ways to use it:

• Generate scenarios for a user story — Click the Generate Scenarios button to have AI produce a set of BDD scenarios based on your issue title and description. You can review each suggestion and choose to Accept or Discard before anything is saved.

• Update individual scenarios — Use AI to refine or expand an existing scenario within the issue view.
